Biography:
Agnes Ayres rose through the ranks at Paramount, particularly acting in Cecil B. DeMille films. She co-starred with Valentino in the Sheik in 1921. She ended her affair with studio head Jesse Lasky soon after, and by 1925 found herself unofficially blacklisted from films. She filed suit against DeMille who alleged she was too fat to still be in pictures. Eventually the suit was settled out of court.
Agnes was good friends with Valentino and Mae Murray. She reprised her role as Diana in Son of the Sheik in 1926. But after that notable roles dried up and she found herself trying to make constant comeback attempts for the rest of her life..
A fairly comprehensive biography of her is in Michael G. Ankerich's "Dangerous Curves 'atop Hollywood Heels' along with Wanda Hawley and Grace Darmond.
